As spring weather begins to arrive and the weather warms up, many pool owners start itching to get their backyards ready for summer. Here are some tips on cleaning you can do around the pool to help get you ready.
Last weekend we had temperatures in the mid-70s in Middle Tennessee. Our phones started ringing on Saturday with calls from people wanting to get their pool openings scheduled and requesting pool cleaning services.
One thing we suggest people do this time of year is get their floats and pool toys ready for summer. Do your floats have mildew or stains on them? Do your pool toys show mold growth? Don't throw them out!
On a warm day, drag your toys and floats out to a sunny spot to get them ready to be cleaned. Mix a cleaning solution that's half water and half distilled vinegar and put into a spray bottle. Spray all the toys and floats down with clean water first, then use a rag and cleaning solution to wipe down each piece. Make sure to clean thoroughly, using a scrub brush as needed. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry in the sun.
Another option, pictured above, is to fill a tote with the toys that need a little extra cleaning. Mix dishwashing liquid and water in the tote and soak the toys for a few hours. This will help loose mold and dirt and make the toys easier to clean.
Once everything is dry, pack or store items carefully out of the sun in a well-ventilated area.
